DEBUTS YAMAHA SUPERBIKE
PRESS RELEASE NUMBER 3 - 2007
Daytona International Speedway hosted the opening round
of the AMA Superbike Series, March 7th - 10th. Jason
DiSalvo participated in the 66th running of the Daytona
200 and made his first appearance in Round 1 of the
AMA Superbike Series. In the 200 Jason qualified 2nd
giving him a front row start for this rigorous race.
The 200-mile distance requires a minimum of 2 pit stops
for tires and fuel. At the first pit stop Jason was
successful in moving into second position in this grueling
event. During the second pit stop a delay in tire change
put Jason back into 6th position ultimately finishing
5th. Jason commented, "It was a good race for us,
Yamaha and the Dunlop tires worked well, we lost a little
time in one of the pit stops but still finished 5th.
As this is the only Formula Extreme Event I will be
racing in, it was o.k."
The Superbike race which Jason qualified 9th in, beginning
his rookie season in this class from the third row presented
a challenge on the new R1 Yamaha. Prior to the race
Jason commented, "It's way more intricate on a
Superbike because there are so many adjustments that
can be made to improve set up. We have been testing
since December and I'm sure it will take more testing
and a couple races to bring the new R1 Yamaha up to
speed." During the course of the race Jason ran
consistently starting out in 11th position ultimately
finishing 6th. He jokingly stated, "I felt if I
finished 6th or better going into this race that would
be acceptable."
Jason leaves Sunday for Birmingham, AL for 2 days of
testing on the new R1 Yamaha Superbike. Testing will
continue in California in early April prior to the Barber
race April 21st and 22nd. |

DISALVO
THIRD FASTEST @ TIRE TEST
impressive mark for new superbike
by evan williams - www.superbikeplanet.com
Thursday, December 07, 2006
Yamaha's Jason DiSalvo spent two days on board his Superbike
at Daytona and was third on the timing sheets with a mark
of 1:38.711, less than a tenth off second place Jake Zemke
of the Honda team.
DiSalvo spent the first day on the 600, but when it came
time to ride the Superbike, the New Yorker got on with
the task at hand. "I think we made a lot of progress,
our own stuff with Yamaha and well as testing tires,"
he said. "I think everyone was happy with the fastest
time, and we did a race stint and we were in the 1:39s
the entire stint, with a couple of 1:38s there at the
end. I wasn't riding too hard, just trying to stay smooth.
It came relatively easy and I didn't want to take chances."
The uphill development curve still applies to Yamaha,
back in AMA Superbike for the first time since the 2002
season. "Any little bit of seat time I can get, we're
making improvements," said DiSalvo.
The R1's time was made more impressive by the fact that
the motor is yet to get the full mojo tuning job at this
point as Yamaha continues to develop their engines. On
Wednesday, DiSalvo got to use the more stout mill that
Eric Bostrom had used on Tuesday, but appeared to lack
the top end steam, according to the radar gun readings.
"There's not really much else to say, rather than
we're upbeat and working hard," added DiSalvo. |
